Left-handed batsman Gautam Gambhir on Sunday said that a win was more important for India in the fourth and final Test match against Australia at the Adelaide Oval, and the team is not focussing on Sachin Tendulkar’s impending 100th international century.
"When you are playing for your country you don't think about individual records. Going down 3-0 hurts much more than Sachin not getting his 100th 100," said Gambhir.
India have been thrashed 3-0 by Australia and the tourists are now looking for a morale-boosting win in the fourth Test, and more importantly, to avoid a clean sweep.
"We can turn it around like we did in 2001. Every Test match for your country is very important we are always up for it. We don't believe we get bad in one or two Test series,” Gambhir was quoted as saying by NDTV.
“We are the world champions. This is when your character comes into play. If you are not motivated then you should not be in this dressing room," said Gambhir.
The Indian opener accepted that his poor run with the bat has been hurting the Indian cricket team.
"The expectations I had for myself have not been met," he said.
Gambhir also stated that Australian pitches have been more supportive to the hosts. "Every country prepares wickets to the effect that helps them so we should prepare turners too," he said.
